Happy Birthday to Us! – Celebrating Four Years of Crochet Bliss: A Journey from Workshops to Retreats
Four years ago, on a crisp and promising September day, I embarked on a journey that would change my life in ways I could have never imagined. It was September 19, 2019, when I hosted my very first crochet workshop, marking the humble beginnings of my crochet business. Today, as I sit down to reflect on this incredible journey, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the path that led me here, to this moment where I celebrate the 4th birthday of my beloved crochet business.

Inception and the First Crochet Workshop
As any entrepreneur would tell you, the first step is often the most challenging. For me, that step was organizing my very first crochet workshop. At that time, I was passionate about crochet and had honed my skills over the years. I had always dreamt of sharing this wonderful craft with others and hoped that they would find as much joy in it as I did.
On that fateful day in 2019, a small group of enthusiastic individuals gathered in a cozy workshop space. They brought with them varying levels of crochet experience, from complete beginners to those who had dabbled in it before. The energy in the room was palpable, a mix of excitement and curiosity. Little did I know that this workshop would be the spark that ignited a crochet revolution.
The Challenge of Adapting to a Pandemic
Just as my crochet business began to gain momentum, the world was hit by an unforeseen challenge – the COVID-19 pandemic. Overnight, in-person gatherings and workshops became impossible. The doors to my workshop space closed, but the desire to crochet and learn remained stronger than ever.
In the face of adversity, I had a choice to make. I could either let the pandemic stifle my passion and dreams or adapt and find new ways to share the art of crochet. I chose the latter.
With the help of technology and a bit of determination, I moved my workshops online, primarily using Zoom as our virtual gathering place. It was a daunting transition at first, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The virtual platform allowed me to reach people from all over the world who shared a love for crochet. Suddenly, geographical boundaries were no longer a limitation, and the crochet community grew stronger despite the physical distance.

Crocheting Through Lockdown
The lockdown months that followed were challenging for many, but they also brought an unexpected silver lining for my crochet business. As people searched for new hobbies and ways to cope with the uncertainty of the world, the art of crochet gained newfound popularity. It seemed that the therapeutic rhythm of crocheting and the satisfaction of creating something beautiful with one’s own hands were just what people needed during these trying times.
My virtual workshops were flooded with eager participants, many of whom were complete beginners. I was heartened by the outpouring of support and the community that was forming around my crochet business. I found myself working tirelessly, answering questions, providing guidance, and witnessing the joy on the faces of my students as they completed their first crochet projects.
The sense of connection and purpose that crochet brought to our lives during those difficult months was immeasurable. It was a reminder of the power of creativity and the resilience of the human spirit.
The Birth of Crochet Retreats
As the world slowly began to reopen, I knew that I wanted to take my crochet business to the next level. That’s when the idea of crochet retreats was born. In September 2021, just two years after my first workshop, I organized my very first crochet retreat.
The retreat was a dream come true, a weekend getaway where crochet enthusiasts could immerse themselves in the craft, surrounded by nature and like-minded individuals. It was held in a picturesque cabin nestled in the woods, where the only sounds were the rustling leaves and the gentle clinking of crochet hooks.
The retreat was a resounding success, and I couldn’t have been happier. It was a testament to the growth of my crochet community and the shared love for this timeless art form. But it was just the beginning.

Expanding the Crochet Retreats
Since that inaugural retreat, I’ve had the privilege of organizing many more, each one a unique and memorable experience. The retreats have become a place of creativity, relaxation, and connection. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people, all brought together by their love for crochet.
This year, I’m excited to share that I’m taking my crochet retreats abroad. Specifically, we’re headed to the enchanting region of Tuscany, Italy. Imagine crocheting amidst the rolling vineyards, sipping on fine wine, and soaking in the rich culture of this beautiful destination. It’s a dream come true for me, and I can’t wait to share this experience with my fellow crochet enthusiasts.
Looking ahead, I have even more ambitious plans. Next year, I’ll be expanding my crochet retreats to more breath-taking locations around the world. Each retreat will offer a unique crochet experience, blending the beauty of travel with the joy of creating.
The Reality of Running a Crochet Business
Now, as I celebrate the 4th birthday of my crochet business, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the reality of entrepreneurship. While my journey has been filled with incredible moments of growth and success, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. I’m not a millionaire, and there have been challenges along the way.
Running a crochet business, or any small business, requires dedication, hard work, and a whole lot of passion. There have been sleepless nights, moments of self-doubt, and financial ups and downs. But through it all, the unwavering support of the crochet community and the joy I find in teaching and sharing this craft have kept me going.

Gratitude and Acknowledgments
I want to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has been a part of this incredible journey. To my students, both near and far, thank you for your enthusiasm and trust in me as your crochet guide. To the crochet community, for the friendships formed and the inspiration shared, thank you for being a source of endless creativity.
I also want to thank my family and friends for their unwavering support. They’ve been there through the late nights of planning, the moments of doubt, and the celebrations of success. Without their encouragement, none of this would have been possible.
As I look to the future, I’m filled with excitement and anticipation. My crochet retreats are just the beginning of what I hope to achieve with my business. I’m committed to spreading the joy of crochet far and wide, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us next.
In conclusion, I want to reiterate that I wouldn’t trade this job for anything else in the world. Despite the challenges and uncertainties, I wake up every day grateful to be doing what I love. Crochet has brought so much joy into my life, and I’m honoured to be able to share that joy with all of you.
So, here’s to four years of crochet bliss, to the countless stitches made, the friendships formed, and the dreams pursued. Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for my crochet business, and I hope you’ll continue to be a part of it every step of the way.
Cheers to crochet, creativity, and the beautiful community that surrounds it
